A new year a new challenge! Rwanda We Want’s year of activities had just begun. This time round it was Bugesera district and the opening ceremony took place on 9th May 2019 at Groupe Scolaire Nyamata catholique. One can’t conduct activities in Bugesera district without looking into its history, it is in that regard that the chairperson stopped at Ntarama genocide memorial to pay respect to the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
On a sunny afternoon, the opening ceremony took place and the guests were Mr. Gasore Serge- Founder of Gasore serge foundation and Mr. Kadafi Aimable- advisor of the executive committee of Bugesera district.
The ceremony kicked off with a prayer and continued with the welcoming remarks of the dean of students at G.S Nyamata Catholique on behalf of the administration and the students at large.
He thanked Rwanda We Want for considering G.S Nyamata Catholique to receive this year’s Rwanda We Want’s activities. He expressed his students’ eagerness to receive the package and pledged his full support towards RWW team to ensure smooth implementation of the activities to be carried out.
Shortly afterwards, the director of programs in RWW, Mr. Patrick Kirenga gave a full presentation about the Rwanda We Want organization and the roadmap of the year’s activities in G.S Nyamata Catholique. Within the presentation, he introduced his fellow colleagues who will be specifically overseeing RWW’s activities in that school.
After a short entertainment break from Elie Maniraguha, Mr. Gasore Serge took the floor to give his remarks. “I was born from this district as many of you, and this place holds most of my childhood memories.” He started. Mr. Gasore continued by telling them that due to his athletic talents, he managed to secure a scholarship which allowed him to pursue his education both here and in the USA sometimes later.
After settling, he started to feel the urge to give back to his country or rather share the little he had with people back at his hometown who barely had anything. He was clearly showing the young ones that building the Rwanda we want doesn’t need extravagant resources, outstanding intelligence or a lot of physical strength. “Anything you have acquired can be the keystone to achieve”, He declared. After that inspiring brief story, he set out to challenge the youth in various games from which the winner was promised full tuition coverage by Gasore Serge foundation together with Rwanda We Want organization.
On behalf of the students, the head boy of G.S Nyamata Catholique, Zigama Abbas, thanked the district officials and the school’s administration for having given them such a huge opportunity and he promised that the students will not disappoint in any way, for this opportunity was unveiled just at the right time they needed it.
The ceremony was approaching the end, and last but not least, the executive chairperson of RWW, Mr.Tristan Murenzi was given the floor to give his remarks.
He started by shedding more light on RWW’s activities implementation explaining that the key aspect of the activities will be trainings using experience-based approach and immediately delivered on Rwanda We Want’s promise to pay the school fees of the challenges’ winner by handing her an envelope containing the full tuition.
He continued by urging the youth to think critically, and constantly look into tackling the problems or challenges within their respective neighborhoods, for the future is created now.
He ended by thanking Bugesera district for the support and the school’s warm welcome.
Lastly, Bugesera district representative, Mr. Kadafi Aimable presided over the official launch of RWW activities in G.S Nyamata Catholique.

He then concluded by commending the work of RWW and thanking RWW for having chosen to conduct their activities in Bugesera district.
The singer Elie, brought the event to an end with some entertainment.
